I got a present!

I LOVE presents! I even got a card!  Thank you Suzanne, Sarah and AJ for the shavings and the card. Look, I didn't even need help reading the card.

I'm always ready for more presents (HINT), and I'm good at saying 'thank you.' Just sayin.'

Visiting the Seniors

Does everyone know that  sometimes Annie takes me to visit the residents at the Senior Home where she works? I mean, how cool is that? Not only do I get a field trip, but I also get held by a bunch of nice elderly folks. Most of the time I make them smile, and that's the best feeling ever.  I'm going to ask Annie to see if she'll send Bob, our webmaster, some pictures. If he's not mad at me (he usually is), maybe he'll let me post some here. Please feel free to, um, 'remind' him if we don't get the pictures posted.

Annie says I'm perfectly behaved when I visit the seniors. But then, aren't I always???

Soft

:You all know I have a bedroom inside my cage, right? Can you put some of your leftover hay (not alfafa- it's too prickly) in there sometimes? I would really appreciate it. It's kind of like changing the sheets. I like a soft place to rest and roost. After all, I don't have the cool chicken coop condo that Caesar has (he's the white rooster who lives with the ladies - hens), so it's not too much to ask for a soft bed, right? Right.

Getting out

The other mornig Micaela was bringing Billy in, and I make all kinds of noise. She looked undecided for a minute, but then she and Billy took pity on me and let me out. Billy and I talked about guy things, which was good. It seems like all of those mares are in season right now, and I have to sit there and look at them acting weird. At least Billy lives across the street and doesn't have to deal with it all day.

Anyway, Micaela carried me down to her shed. I guess she didn't trust the hawks. It was pretty early. She gave me some black sunflower seeds and then shut the door of her shed while she got the rest of the horses she was feeding. It was cozy in there. When more people started showing up they let me out of the shed and I got to hang out a lot. I love that. I keep telling you that. People are my favorite thing in life. I like people even more than I like worms.

It was a great morning!

How I feel

This is how I feel when everyone is at the ranch and I'm stuck in my cage. I try to make noise so and be noticed, but I have to be careful becuase I don't want to get in trouble. I need to get out, get some exercise, and most importantly, socialize!

I know it's an inconvenience to put me back in the cage sometimes when you want to get out for your ride or when you have to leave, but it really just takes a minute.

Some of the horses are still shedding, so be sure to brush them off well before you put your saddle on. Otherwise they tell me their fur really starts to itch if they get sweaty.

I don't get sweaty. So there.

Darn

I wanted to prove that I'm a clean rooster. Personal hygiene is important, and I thought if I could prove how well I take care of myself, more of you would pick me up and let me hang out with you.

Anyway, I had  Janette take a video of me bathing myself. I found this really cool spot by one of the washracks. You can see a video of me at: http://pagemillpastures.com/images/Napolean.MOV

I have been getting out a litle more lately, and I love it. So thanks to any of of you who have been springing me from my cage and putting me back when you have to.

Gonna go look for a worm. They're always easier to find after a good rain.

Admiring myself

I was hanging out with Josi for a while today. We were looking at pictures of me. I liked it. I'm pretty photogenic, if I do say so myself. After all, let's remember that I have my own Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/pages/Napoleon-the-rooster/121420587085), and I'm on a billboard at JFK. I'm also Josi's husband's CD cover too (for real - maybe I'll post a picture of it here sometime).  He's Kenny Neal, and he's an awesome blues musician who plays all over the world.  Since I can't travel with him, he put me on his CD cover - so at least my picture gets all over the world.

As it should.

So?

Told you I like shoes. This was a good one. Have you ever stopped to think that shoelaces look like worms?

I've been getting out a little more in the mornings, thanks to some kind folks who take pity on me. I really appreciate it. It's really hard to stay in shape when I'm in my pen for hours at a time. I don't want to turn into one of those old, fat, cranky roosters. It would ruin my reputation.

EXCUSE ME

Did I not make myself clear?

PLEASE, let me out of jail when you're around  the ranch. I just want to hang out with you and do some general pecking around. I'm sorry I require some supervision, but sometimes the hawks just get a bit too close and I can't get away fast enough. (No comments please, Bob).

Cars

I love to ride in cars. Sometimes if you leave your car door open I'll hop in and wait for you to drive me somewhere. Occasionally I'll investigate the floor - you never know when you'll find a good tidbit to snack on - but usually I'll be standing on the passenger seat until you're ready to drive. I don't ever mind if you put me in your lap or the crook of your arm once we start moving since most cars don't have seatbelts for roosters (yet).

Anyway, usually I'll just get a ride with someone who is unloading grain or hay. I like it, especially when the heater's on.

Here I am in Janette's husband's Prius. It's a cozy car. Don't I look like I'm ready to go somewhere? I am!
